Controlling the Transmission of Mastitis-causing Pathogens across Heterogeneous Dairy Herds

نویسنده

چکیده

Using a mathematical model for the transmission of mastitis-causing pathogens in a dairy herd and parameter estimation, control strategies are derived for a number of different herds. In addition, a single common strategy is derived for control of all of the herds. A key feature of all of the control strategies is that they minimise the combined costs associated with infection and treatment. Only a small decrease in performance results from developing a common strategy. Copyright c © 2005 IFAC

Management of mastitis on organic and conventional dairy farms.

This paper compares management of mastitis on organic dairy farms with that on conventional dairy farms. National standards for organic production vary by country. In the United States, usage of antimicrobials to treat dairy cattle results in permanent loss of organic status of the animal, effectively limiting treatment choices for animals experiencing bacterial diseases. There are no products ...

Subclinical mastitis in machine milked dairy farms in Punjab: prevalence, distribution of bacteria and current antibiogram

Materials and Methods Mastitis is the inflammation of mammary gland; it is a complex disease which continues to have a major economic impact on the dairy industry throughout the world [1, 2]. The losses due to mastitis in USAalone are 1.7 billion dollars [3] while in India the losses are estimated to be about Rs. 7,165 crores [4]. The term mastitis comprises two relatively independent health pr...

Application of a Dot Blot Hybridization Platform to Assess Streptococcus uberis Population Structure in Dairy Herds

Streptococcus uberis is considered one of the most important pathogens associated with bovine mastitis. While traditionally acknowledged as an environmental pathogen, S. uberis has been shown to adopt a contagious epidemiological pattern in several dairy herds. Since different control strategies are employed depending on the mode of transmission, in-depth studies of S. uberis populations are es...

Molecular Epidemiology of Streptococcus uberis Clinical Mastitis in Dairy Herds: Strain Heterogeneity and Transmission

Multilocus sequence typing was successfully completed on 494 isolates of Streptococcus uberis from clinical mastitis cases in a study of 52 commercial dairy herds over a 12-month period. In total, 195 sequence types (STs) were identified. S. uberis mastitis cases that occurred in different cows within the same herd and were attributed to a common ST were classified as potential transmission eve...

Study of Staphylococcus aureus collected at slaughter from dairy cows with chronic mastitis.

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most important pathogens associated with bovine mastitis. Recent studies have shown that Staph. aureus strains may differ in virulence, and in their ability to disseminate across commercial dairy herds. The goal of this study was to determine whether Staph. aureus isolates differed in their ability to colonize mammary tissue, and whether such differences coul...
